What is a Transponder or Microchip?
All modern vehicles built since 1998 are integrated with state-of-the-art immobiliser systems. While the immobiliser system can vary from model to model, they all share similar technology and a transponder chip.
What would happen if I try to use a non-programmed key?
Attempting to start a car with an unprogrammed key can potentially cause all manner of proble ms, with the most serious actually locking the vehicle down. If this occurs it can be expensive and time -consuming to remove the vehicle’s lockdown state.
How do I know if my key has a transponder?
Virtually all vehicles manufactured after 1997 incorporate a transponder chip within the head of the car key. If you’re still not sure if your key has a transponder, feel free to contact our friendly staff to assist.
What can I do if I lose all my keys?
First of all, stay calm and contact one of our experts to visit you onsite at your vehicle. We will need to cut a new car key, and there are several ways we can achieve this.
- Receive a key code direct from the dealer.
- Remove the lock on the door.
- Manipulating the lock into opening through the use of special tools. From there we can decode the lock using a vehicle specific key cut and spacing graphs.
Once a new key has been cut, we will then need to program the transponder to work with the vehicle’s immobiliser system.
